Step-Parent Adoption

Step-parent adoption is generally simpler than other types of adoption. This is the most common form of adoption and requires that the step-parent assume all financial and legal responsibilities for the spouse's child(ren) releasing the non-custodial parent of all parenting responsibilities. Step-parent adoption address issues such as:
  • Consents from the non-custodial parent
  • Cow long the step-parent and biological parent must be married before an adoption petition can be filed
  • Whether or not a homestudy is required
  • Other requirements
